Nevertheless, we fact-checked nine statements the 39th president made long after leaving the White House, including that he raised no money in his presidential campaign against incumbent President Gerald Ford (Mostly True) and that 2016’s Republican and Democratic presidential candidates were “quite unpopular” (True). The more misleading claims we checked were claims he made while promoting equality for women.
