Clipping cats’ nails is very common. There are cat nail clippers. You just clip the external sharp part, with no flesh.
Also, this is a depiction of Lambert from Cult of the Lamb clipping Narinder’s nails, the primary antagonist. After beating them, you can induct them into your cult, and they turn mild-mannered. The nail-clipping is a cute demonstration of that.

You might be thinking of de-clawing, which is a surgical procedure where the whole first joint is removed. Just trimming might hurt an outdoor cats ability to hunt, but they probably shouldn’t be outside anyway.
