I participated there for so long before I realized, I thought the few people who complained were just trolls or salty people. I was very wrong.

That seems very accurate. I actually made a post on those right wing talking points specifically about Lemmy Dev @[email protected] saying them to someone when they asked him about making a Lemmy plugin. It was really bad.
