      In China and Hong Kong if you’re famous, you support everything CCP does. Because if you don’t, you’re not famous at best and missing at worst.

        Okay but he organized a party for high ranking police officials and sang karaoke with them when at the same time his fellow Hong Kong citizens were being beaten up by the police. His support for the CCP goes beyond coerced compliance.

          I’m not saying he’s an all-round upstanding guy. I even heard he refuses (or refused?) admitting to having a daughter outside of marriage. But we also need to keep in mind that he’s a dinosaur at this point, and expecting progressive views from an old rich dude from Hong Kong/China is pushing it.

            But the weird thing is that this CCP pandering attitude of people born in HK is a modern phenomenon. Before reunification most Hongkongers wanted independence from the mainland.
