Typically, hunting swords were used for finishing off animals who were already mortally or near-mortally wounded - to save ammunition, or in lieu of a spear simply for style (why use a spear when a NOBLE’S weapon is a sword?).
That being said, I’d prefer to waste the ammunition than getting into swordfight range with even a mortally wounded boar. Screw that noise!
