The letter targets my wife’s background. We both feel uneasy about this, and feel like our privacy was invaded.

I am going to dig into this, but isn’t this illegal?

Looking at elections Canada it states the ways one can advertise their campaign and personalized letters sent directly to a voters address is not included as an option.

I recommend going to the media at the very least with this one before election day.

        Yeah that’s my understanding too.

I used to get ones from the Tories a few years back, looks only (ignoring content) this is somehow tamer, those looked like Peter Popov mailers complete with the random fake pencil scrawls in the margins, highlighting and blue ink underlining.

I was aware of the information they have access to, and the information made available. It is troubling though that I have yet to find a direct answer on direct mail campaigning. At the very least it is a grey area being taken advantage of but I was sure it was against the law to be this direct and use that much information on a voter.

The media would probably eat this up, it would be hilarious if this ended up hurting the conservatives even more (not that they need it).

I think the Conservatives need all the help they can get regarding being hurt in the election. It is honestly a little sad that the Party still holds this much support when Pierre could not sound any more like Trump if he tried.

I do want to point out the entire “for change” thing is clearly not for the better just that he’s not the incumbent.

This logic brought America Trump so I really don’t know why someone would even say it now.

Conservatives are desperate. The latest ad doesn’t even show Pierre Poilievre. That’s hilarious.

The envelope reads: "Before you vote, read this - Because putting Canada First starts with you.

Looks like a typical political ad to me. What about it targets your wife’s background? Are you sure you’re not reading into a coincidence? Nothing in that seemed personalized.

Wifes background is Venezuelan, the envelope is in Spanish, and on the other side of the letter its writen the same but entirely in Spanish.

The political party leaders wife is Venezuelan.

Personally, we both don’t use our individual backgrounds to find common ground with strangers.

I was skeptical until you said the entire letter was in Spanish on the other side.

It seems pretty unlikely that they’re sending out mass letters in Spanish rather than French, unless they’re targeting people they know are Spanish speaking.

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that the envelope seems to be entirely French, but the letter seems to be entirely English?

But yeah, politicians do keep profiles on you, and it’s really disturbing. Here in Australia at least, they’re exempt from most privacy laws, making it completely legal. When some Jewish people started getting “happy Hanukkah” letters…well, they were not happy.

It’s Spanish, not French, and OP states in another comment that the other side of the letter is Spanish as well. The mail is targeting OP’s wife using demographic info, probably purchased from a data broker, because she has a Venezuelan background.

Oh merde. That’s embarrasing. I can only blame it on the fact that I was on my phone and never bothered looking that closely at it.

C’est plus pire parce que je parle plus qu’un peu francais, et j’ai appris l’espagnol pendant trois ans. (Mais j’etais nul en espagnol…)

OP said in another comment the letter repeats in spanish on the other side.

Upvote for your second paragraph though since you are getting downvotes for an error you have already acknowledged
