I wanna use signal but I only text like 10 people tops and 9 of them have iPhones like me and would never listen to me about moving to signal.
Install it and use it with the few who do. Eventually more people will switch. Someone will see you are a user in their contacts and that adds to the network effect. Also install.the app on your family members phones so you can chat privately.
How many apps do they have installed? Are they very good friends if they won’t install a single – free – app to stay in touch with you?
I was in a similar boat when I started using Signal in 2016. Now, everyone I care to talk to is on Signal. The rest can contact me via SMS alongside login TOTPs and dentist appointment reminders.
You don’t have to compromise your values due to peer pressure.
I use Signal, that said:
Are they very good friends if they won’t install a single — free — app to stay in touch with you?
Is someone a very good friend if they won’t communicate with you because you won’t use their preferred app? That’s the real question you’ve presented.
You don’t have to compromise your values due to peer pressure.
You seem confused, if you’re trying to talk someone into using your preferred app that they may know nothing about, then you’re the one engaging in peer pressure, not the other way around.
