I don’t understand the mindset and I grew up on a farm in a perpetually red county

People would have to explain racist jokes and I still wouldn’t get it

I doubt most of the county has ever even seen a black person

We had lots of seasonal workers that were pretty much all from Mexico, still heard more black jokes than Mexican jokes

Locals loved the migrant workers

Most of my family and extended family is the polar opposite of me

At family gatherings it is guaranteed to get awkward, every time

At Christmas the joke was about Haitians eating dogs and cats in Ohio

My immediate response was “Well, that’s obviously bullshit”

I got a room full of blank stares
