To fellow travelers, Hannah Brehm likely looked like she was taking a belated babymoon well into her third trimester.

But she and her husband had received a crushing diagnosis: Their baby’s brain was not developing properly, upending their wanted pregnancy. Medical experts warned moving forward would likely mean her son would know only pain and suffering. The Minnesota couple wasn’t going to take that chance.

Instead, they went to Colorado, where for decades the Boulder Abortion Clinic served as a resource for women who looked to terminate their pregnancies in the second or third trimester because of medical reasons, like Brehm, or other circumstances.

After more than 50 years, that clinic quietly closed last month, leaving the U.S. with just a handful that offer abortions after 28 weeks into pregnancy — many on a case-by-case basis.

It’s easy to understand when you realise that it’s all about controlling women

If men could get pregnant, then having abortions would be something boasted about in locker rooms

The fact that men can’t get pregnant has been a source of privilege and power for all time

The whole point of civilisation is that we are supposed to be able to overcome our base nature, but I have never really believed that civilisation had ever been anything other than a thin veneer

Thinner in many places than others, and America is a horrifying example of a polished turd.

Don’t scratch the surface or poke it even a little bit…

Oh yeah, that’s what it is in origin. But not for every idiot who falls for it. Some genuinely take it at face value and don’t apply the same anti-bodily-autonomy logic to anything else, and that’s what I find confusing.

Because you’re making the mistake that they are capable of thinking like reasonable people

They are fuelled by ignorance, self-righteousness and hate

Don’t forget the hypocricy. They would have an abortion in a heartbeat, or force one on their daughters if it suited

There’s certainly many cases like this. But I wouldn’t be dismissive like that- some are ONLY ignorant. I’ve changed someone’s mind before. They hadn’t had access to all that much formal education and it was just the standard way of thinking in their village. The hadnt heard it explained like I did before.
