He’s literally Russian so no surprise there.
Is he a Russian immigrant to Canada, or just a Canadian with Russian ancestry?
He posted a pic of him holding a Russian passport. Not sure if his or not.
Must be true then. /s
His parents left Russia when he was very young. He cannot move to Russia because he has a cushy job in the health sector and also because he’s generally lazy and doesn’t actually want to move to Russia, no money there.
Funny, I called him out on being more interested invattacking Liberalism andsupporting fascist regimes than actually speaking out against human rights crimes, and noted that he has a concerning bias towards political spheres which currently have an approaching/ongoing election. My suspicion became that he’s a tankie programmer who happens to just like this space in his down time, but genuine Putin praising Russian citizen/asset was never really off the table.
I’m not sure if he’s currently in Russia, but he definitely has a Russian passport as evidenced by a pic he posted a year or so ago. Could be safe for all I know too
I’m convinced at least one of the .Ml admins are literally just paid shills for totalitarian regimes (Davel). Yogthos has the same link spam with no substance argumentation.
What’s interesting and telling is these guys’ rhetoric isn’t actually focused on particular issues, but exclusively the actions of states and how Russia, China, and North Korea are all pinnacles of morality and success, while US bad.
The more of their shit you read the more obvious it becomes
And they run the instance
Idk. Doesn’t bode well for Lemmy long term, they make the entire software stink
Weirdly glad to see your experiences mirror mine, even if they make a sad reality.
This is my concern, too. I do respect what they’ve created - getting social networking out of the hands of corporations and functioning as a decentralized collective is a good idea - but as I said somewhere else, the ideology that led to this shared goal looks to be problematic. I have no interest in trading capital-fascism for good ol’ fashioned fascism.
This is where I am as well. There’s a real possibility that .ml is funded intentionally as a training and on-boarding forum for troll farm recruits to get some practice in before they get promoted to reddit and Facebook. I suspect the people behind some of these more notable accounts are different people every month.
