Well, Biden ordered it. So yeah, I guess that skewed things, but I remember everyone praising him.

But yeah, that could have skewed the numbers. But doesn’t make the poll wrong. It just provides a reason for it.

Everyone? There was a ton of opposition, especially in my area.

We didn’t do a full lockdown in any sense of the word, we just shut schools down then ended the school year early, required stores to post social distancing rules (enforcement not required), and reduced maximum capacity of stores. Business carried on as usual, and our state did better than many in both economy and better than most in fatal cases (latter isn’t particularly fair due to demographic differences between states).

Distribution to supply chain completely messed up product availability and hence prices, the stimulus packages juiced inflation further, and keeping rates low (not something Biden has control over) further exacerbated the problem. He did all of that to help relieve immediate strain, but as we can see, that was a very short term treatment and just made things worse long term.

Honestly, the best plan was probably to largely do nothing, other than push for a vaccine. A lot of people would get sick, and that’s deeply unpopular, but we probably would’ve gotten through it faster and recovered faster than other countries that took more extreme measures. That’s easy to say with hindsight though, but I do think Biden went a bit too far in the “protect people” direction.

I did vote for Biden, and I was disappointed in his and other Democratic governments’ responses. Printing money has consequences, and we felt that very acutely.
