our brains aren’t as good at directional sound. our hunting skills are tied to our physical endurance, ocular range, pattern recognition, and tool development. like… we could tip our heads, and some traditional hunters even do having developed that skill early in life, but it just doesn’t give us as much extra info as it does canids and felids
edit: oh! i forgot the other part. our ears are on the sides of our heads. we get more horizonal info by default than most hunters, and in fact our ears are more valuable for appraising threats where they’d come from for us: the peripheries and from behind
but then why don’t we do it?

I dunno, personally I can’t get it to work
