The United States isn’t even affected by this law, Apple could if they wanted continue to use lightning cable in the United States. They won’t of course because that doesn’t make economic sense but that’s not the European union’s problem that’s apples.
In Europe you cannot sue someone just because you feel like it, the courts won’t allow the case to go forward if it has no merit.
