content. Defederation stops us from syncing their content to our server.
Even if you don’t take their bait, someone else will. It makes a toxic forum if writing the wrong thing summons multiple bad faith ahistorical takes. It’s not worth preserving federation for the few who aren’t behaving like that, they can join other instances.
That’s what moderation is for, both at the admin and community levels. Block the worst offenders, but don’t defederate just because a number of users from an instance cause trouble.
