I’ll say, after a decade or more of the Sonic property languishing in bad game after bad game…

Fuck, thank goodness these guys got their hands on the property so at least we got some fun movies out of it and people freaking out over the reveal of Shadow with a gun. Possibly the only time you might ever be happy seeing “He has a gun” trending online.

We even got Ugly Sonic out of the whole deal.

I wonder if we are going to get Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie: The Game.

If we ever do, then someone needs to mod in first trailer Sonic in.

I wonder if the franchise would’ve survived with ugly sonic. Also, does this count as “a good video game movie”? I thought those didn’t exist.

I’m pretty confident that was clever viral marketing.

With how much it would have cost to delay the film by 3 month and reanimate the face, I’d doubt it.

It was, but the Internet feels better believing the expected backlash achieved something

I can’t believe that was ever real. I saw the movie and there’s just no way they animated all of that with such a horrible design, and then went back and redid everything.

He’s in almost every shot of the film.

I mean, it’s not like they manually sculpted him every scene. They probably referenced a 3D model file. Swap that out and do some touch ups and you’re golden

The whole rig had to have been different. The shape of everything from the eyes to mouth nose and ears were different spots. All the shadows would be different too. Thats a lot of reprocessing.

If they really did go back change it, they did a damn good job. Kudos to the team.

When King Kong (2005) came out, I got a decent chuckle about thinking how much I wanted King Kong and Gollum models to be swapped.

I still like to believe that was a marketing gimmick to get people to spread the word about the movie and that they never actually intended to use that design because all publicity is good publicity. But knowing the fact it’s Paramount, I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if they actually thought that was a good design.
