  • Sure, but the Ukrainians can use those 3 days to do the same thing. And the way things are, that means the Russian army loses momentum while Ukrainians gain respite (if they actually go for the ceasefire). Don’t get me wrong, I agree with Putin’s decision. It’s the right thing to do, both morally and politically. Especially for the reasons to outline (but I think in Putin’s mind he’s just trying to present some good faith on Russia’s behalf, and he’s probably hoping there’s no incident in Moscow while a bunch of BRICS leaders and other world leaders gather together). But militarily it might turn out to hurt the Russian effort more than it would help.

  • The spin in the article is so extreme that I’m getting nauseous.

    Third sentence in:

It is hoped that this change in military support for Ukraine could see Moscow move its red lines to achieve a peace deal.

Yeah, as if Russia’s supposed to be thankful now that UK won’t deploy its super mighty unbeatable imperial regiments.

    Then later on:

“This was always the UK’s thought. It was France who wanted a more muscular approach.”

Of course, Kid Starver just knew from the beginning that the British Army is basically an April Fool’s joke by now and definitely did not seethe and shout and froth at his general staff for telling him this was going to be suicide. And dead empire, if it wasn’t for those pesky French and their powers of seductive suggestion.

I can’t wait to see what the Baltic chihuahuas will do next once the French pull out of the “coalition of the willing” as well.

  • The difference between Trump and China, is that China was preparing for this trade war for the last 5 years, and even more so when they understood early in the elections that Trump was going to win. China got its economy ready for sanctions and tarriffs, became less reliant on imports from the West and forged strong economic ties with Asian, Latin American and African countries. Trump has just gotten into office, and without bracing first, he just started smashing things. Guess who’s coming out on top in this.

Edit: by comparison Europe just assumed Trump would lose, and then assumed Trump would not impose tarriffs on them, despite clearly speaking about it for years. So here they are, having cut off their major energy supplier and then (literally) burning the bridge with Russia. Having imposed tarriffs on Chinese goods at the behest of the US, and still completely unprepared for the effects of Trump’s tarriffs. Yet, all they seem to care about is how to keep Ukraine’s funeral pyres burning.

  • Zelensky is going to let martial law expire in May and won’t renew it. At least that’s what members of the Ukrainian parliament announced. This indicates that most likely, Ukraine is finally going to get elections. There’s two possibilities here and they are not mutually exclusive. Either Trump pressured Zelensky to quit the government (probably a Russian demand as well for any further talks), and/or the military and nazis have turned against Zelensky after the debacles at Kursk and Toretsk (which saw massive casualties among the most elite Ukrainian units, which also happen to be the Nazis).

If this is the case, then Zelensky’s only real option is to let elections occur soon without him taking part in them. If he let’s elections occur, then there’s no real point for the Nazis to rise up against him for the time being (unless it seems obvious that they can’t win the elections). If he doesn’t take part, then that ensures the Americans (along with the Europeans) will protect his life and help him escape to some French or Floridian beach resort with the bulk of his accrued corruption treasure.
