Countertops and tiles… you certainly got my number!
Ditto, I loved that show, and John Noble as Walter played no small part in making it great.

I reckon it’s a water filled balloon, rather than the demon core. He’s looking for an excuse to drench Calvin.

Now, management doesn’t necessarily have any idea what they should use it for, so they leave that to product managers and such. They don’t have any idea, either, and so they look at what features others have built and find a way to adapt one or more of those to fit their own products.
Slap on back, job well done, clueless upper management happy, even though money and time have been spent and the revenue remains the same.

espentan@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What was the strangest reason you got in trouble in school?9·1 month agoI said “jesus christ” to a teacher (3rd grade’ish), why I can’t remember but probably because I was asked to do something I felt was silly. Turned out the teacher was very religious and accused me of blasphemy, and was really up in arms about it. He invited my mom to a meeting to discuss the issue but, according to my mom, quickly dropped the whole thing when my mom had said “jesus christ” 5 times in the same amount of minutes.
I guess I know who taught me to use that phrase.

In the early days it was a bit more than that. You had to deal with fiddly software and do things like mapping buttons to video tracks, create transition videos, create chapters etc… It’s been a couple of decades since I last dabbled with this stuff, but I remember that doing it well, and creating something that stood out and worked well, was a bit of an art.
Edit: All/most of those things became easy(ier) as authoring software improved, of course, but in late 90s and early 00s it took practice and skill to achieve a professional result.
