4 days agoThis is great news, I’m always proud to have @dbzer0 associated with my lemmy activity, but starting a non-profit only reinforces that this is the community best representing my values. IMHO non-profits and community lead organizations are our best alternative to enshittification, as there are no greedy shareholders running things with zero interest in the actually quality of a thing or service, just concerned with expanding the wealth they were usually born with.
Yarr! I appreciate the humility and skepticism expressed in your response matey and I agree there’s no universal antidote for the abominations (aka corporations) that purvey suffering and evil on a scale unrivaled in our world. Lest we forget, how modern corporations originated to capitalize on the slave trade in the 17th century, then legally transformed themselves as slavery ended, creating a new system of exploitation based on corporation personhood. During the Age of Sail, piracy offered the most effective challenge to corporations like the East India Company, disrupting their slave trade and offering those freed people an opportunity to join. Piracy was the answer to corporate greed then, as I believe it still is today.
