I did watch the debate and my immediate take away was that it was a cordial debate, which is sad that being cordial is now abnormal enough for that to be the first thing that stood out.

But with that being said, after thinking about it longer, I realized that the reason it was so cordial is because the questions asked were sane-washing almost all of Trump’s positions. I don’t see how the number one question would ever be anything other than:

The only reason your candidate is on the ballot this November is because the Supreme Court ruled that states do not have the ability to keep insurrectionists off the ballot - and they have also declared that various other crimes your candidate have committed cannot be prosecuted due to an alarming declaration that presidents are mostly above the law.

The question, Senator Vance, is why is your candidate qualified for anything other than wearing an orange jumpsuit in prison?"

Hard to say. That study you linked mentions reductions in speed and crashes in the vicinity of the camera, which to me indicates that people are only slowing down because they know a camera is there. I suppose someone would have to do a study to see if speed cameras reduce speeds and crashes in areas where there aren’t currently cameras, but have been in the past. Meaning that people are slowing down in areas where they think there might be cameras.

I think the sentiment against them stems from the fact that there are ways to reduce speeds without feeling like they’re being used as a revenue stream.

Personally I like when there are warning signs saying “Speed camera in use ahead” since it has the effect of slowing down traffic and not feeling like a “gotcha” moment.

That is Trump’s tactic, which worked wonders when debating against Biden. I was glad when Harris shut that shit down by basically saying “I told you he was going to spout a bunch of bullshit, anyway my point is…”

I’m still shocked they changed their slogan from “Make America Great Again” to “Take America Back”. The people who came up with that saw that it implied violence and fully embraced it.

Back in the day, my stepdad worked overseas so we found ourselves at the airport quite often. Remember how they used to have those courtesy phones where you pick up, talk to an operator, and ask them to make an announcement in the airport to have someone pickup and connect you?

My brother and I would go to those phones and request that they page Reverend Maynard James Keenan. Say you were making $10,000 a day, in today’s dollars. $10,000 a day, every day, no days off. What’s even more amazing, say you were super good at saving. It’s amazing how effective the right-wing media ecosphere is at protecting their candidates. Somehow they can take Trump ranting like a lunatic about immigrants eating cats - and then convince their supporters that it only happened because Kamala had secret spy earrings and the moderators were in kahoots with her.

Worth pointing out that she died in August of 2022* - not long after Roe v Wade was overturned. Apparently it took a while for the hoops to be jumped through to officially call this a preventable death.
