I wonder if they continue their unhinged support of the US while the US is committing suicide or if they have an actual hint of reason and rather follow China into a more stable future.

Maybe this is a “look before you leap” situation. If I was thinking of re-orienting my country’s 80-year-old military and economic alignment, I’d want to feel out the new partner before moving away from the old.

We already saw that as soon as Biden was elected. Any bit of skepticism with regards to loyally following the US under Trump went away overnight, when everything went “back to normal” in the White House.

I get the impression that they would love to continue their unhinged support for the US, but Trump is making it exceedingly difficult for them to do.

I wonder how this will play out in the eyes of the European public if they continue to re-establish and develop ties?

China is not, per its non-interference policy, going to do anything to halt Europe’s descent into fascism. Not on the government policy level, anyway. But if the agreements they start making include an end to the promotion of Sinophobia, people having a unfiltered view of the quality of life in China might have a significant effect on European attitudes.
